Qualified, experienced, effective English teacher
There are few teachers who can say they have taught from age 4 - 84, with huge success across a range of subjects, but I fit that bill.I started my career as a primary school teacher, first in South Africa (Year 1) and later, after spending a year teaching English to foreign learners in Japan, as a supply teacher in the UK. However, in the UK I soon moved on to work in sixth form, initially teaching on a childcare diploma, but I was soon asked to teach GCSE and Functional Skills English to 16- 19 year olds. I love working with small children and helping with reading and speaking skills, and with older learners, GCSE is the area I really shine the most at, and I have helped many a student who previously failed GCSE English at school, to pass the subject at college. At college level I have also helped many students to write their university statements and enter prestigious universities. I love working 1:1 with learners of all ages and the enormous sense of achievement when they exceed their own expectations and achieve to their potential.
I taught GCSE English at a London Sixth Form for 5 years, many of my students did not speak English at home, but I have an excellent track record helping these students pass the GCSE on the most recent specification. My strength with young children is teaching phonics and reading. I have helped private second language learners to adapt to the English schooling system and have helped improve their English. I have worked with many immigrants to improve their English with students from as far afield as from China, Japan, Pakistan, Bangladesh and the middle east.
