GCSE English expert with MA and QTS

£25 per hour
    Balham, South West London

As the headline states, I am an expert in the field of English. The Literature side of things is where the bulk of my own academic expertise lies, and I have studied the subject to Masters Level at Warwick University. However, for the past four years I have taught GCSE English Language, as well as Literature, in both mainstream and smaller SEN-specific schools. As as a result, I am as proficient with small group or one-to-one work as I am with big, rowdy groups of 30! I have also worked as an examiner for Edexcel, marking English Language and Literature papers, so I know exactly what that particular exam board is looking for, and have taught AQA also. To give you an idea of what I can offer, I had a group of 3 study with me through the GCSE English Lit course last year, in a specialist provision for students with Austistic Spectrum Condition, and they got a 7 and two 9s.

Tutoring / Teaching Experience

I began as a teaching assistant at a state mainstream school in Suffolk, having just finished my MA. Due to my subject knowledge I was quickly segwayed into cover teaching and running literacy intervention sessions. I decided that I definitely wanted to be a teacher at that point and did my teacher training at a specialist provision in Cambridge for students with ASD. For much of my training year, I spent two days per week working at a mainstream secondary, teaching English across the Key Stages. I spent two more years at the SEN school and am now working as a supply teacher in SW London.

Suitability for tutoring
Ed is a 'natural.' In the two and a half years that Ed has worked in my department he has shown himself to be a creative teacher well in tune with the needs of his autistic students. His attention to detail has been exemplary and he has been reliable and completely trustworthy. He has contributed greatly to the department in terms of planning and assessment. His subject knowledge is impressive and his lessons are always well paced and his lesson objectives attainable. I have no hesitation in recommending Ed to any educational establishment where he is certain to be a real asset.
