TEACHING PRINCIPLES

I am very musical and have a natural ability to enthuse and inspire students to create music they often did not know was possible to achieve, as well as being very effective in correcting technical faults quickly, so that their playing is less laboured – becoming more effortless and enjoyable.

I like to teach a traditional mix of scales, studies, sight-reading and pieces in the lessons encouraging the development of aural skills with response games and learning music by memory. I have often found that scales, arpeggios, and finger exercises are the quickest way to gain a more effective finger technique so I try to teach these.

Learning Theory is very helpful if you are a beginner. There are many good books that can help students, with a choice of publications suitable for young 4 yrs olds through to adults.

We have had Judy as a piano teacher in the family for a few years now. She teaches my 5 and 8 year old. She is an excellent teacher and both my children have developed a love of playing and also learning theory. She has focused on securing a really strong grounding in the basics, which is so important. Both my kids are different and she is able to adapt to suit them and to teach them in the way they respond best. She is very thoughtful and considerate, she is perceptive and flexible, kind and genuinely caring but firm and fair. I highly recommend her.
