Masters/1st class Nottingham graduate, English Tutor
I'm a 28 year old Masters educated English graduate living in Angel, Islington. I graduated top of my year from Nottingham University in 2012, achieving a First in English and American Studies. The next year I was awarded a full scholarship by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) for an MRes (Masters by Research) in American Literature, also at Nottingham, for which I was awarded a Distinction. I have experience tutoring English AS/A Level for both OCR and WJEC exam boards, and also workshopping PhD theses.
During my MRes, I was part of a weekly postgraduate research workshop, where I gained experience critiquing fellow students' PhD chapters and forthcoming publications from professional academics. I would welcome the opportunity to work with UG or PG students, as well as adults. My specialist fields are 20th and 21st Century literature, particularly contemporary fiction, therapeutic culture, postmodernism, ecocriticism and theories of trauma and memory.
Since 2013 I have worked as a student support worker for students with disabilities in higher education, at institutions including BPP Law School, Middlesex University, Roehampton University, LSBU and London Met. In addition to this role and tutoring, I am also a musician and play drums in 2 bands.
I worked with students studying A Level English with the new WJEC exam board. Set texts were Bronte's Jane Eyre and Ishiguro's Never Let Me Go. We focused mainly on essay structure and exam revision technique.
